Could Thor‘s Grandmaster face off against Doctor Doom? Jeff Goldblum has a perfect reaction to Robert Downey Jr.’s grand return to the MCU.
Fans are still struggling to process the news that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU, not as Iron Man, but as the villainous Doctor Doom. This has led a number of high profile stars to weigh in on the matter, including surprising names like former Kang actor Jonathan Majors and Thor star Jeff Goldblum. And in typical Goldblum fashion, he gives the best reaction anyone could possibly give!
“Excellent news,” Goldblum said during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “I think I vaguely heard the…yes, yes, I’d heard whispers on my peripheral. Yes, channels. Victor Von Doom, I like that name. If my name had been Victor Von Doom, I’d be a long further along than I am now. That’s a great name. Or Von to anything. Or Van. Von Goldblum!”
While some people believe this quote might imply the Thor star heard about the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom before the general public, it’s likely the whispers Jeff Goldblum is referring to is just him not keeping a constant tab on the MCU. Though many still believe that the fact he’s heard about it could mean the Grandmaster is plotting his return in the next Avengers films!
Will Jeff Goldblum Return As The Grandmaster?
Jeff Goldblum has been no stranger to the MCU ever since he appeared in the Thor franchise, having made his return in What If…? to voice the Grandmaster as the ringleader of a death race Iron Man was forced to compete in. This gives many fans hope that he could face off against Robert Downey Jr. when he trades out the Iron Man mask for Doctor Doom’s cloak. Yet it seems Goldblum isn’t tipping his hand when it comes to the possibility.
“If there is, it’s in your cards.” Goldblum explained when asked about a potential return to the MCU as the Grandmaster. “In the future cards, in your crystal ball, [Josh] Horowitz.”
The Grandmaster has certainly been an Avengers-level threat in the comics. It would only make sense for Jeff Goldblum to level up from a Thor villain if he ever does make a return in the MCU. Though given it seems every actor wants a crack at Robert Downey Jr. when he makes his debut as Doctor Doom, it’s likely Goldblum’s only bout against Iron Man will stay in the realm of animation.
